Culture and Community: Discover Senior Living in San Antonio, Texas

With its rich history, deep Mexican influence, and family-friendly activities, it’s no surprise that San Antonio, Texas, is the most visited city in Texas, and one of the top-visited cities in America every year.

Among the southwestern charm and deep Hispanic roots, San Antonio offers something for everyone, young and old alike. While family-friendly attractions like SeaWorld and Six Flags draw young visitors, historical and cultural sites like The Alamo and The Riverwalk compel many older adults to call The River City home.

Franklin Park Senior Living is also proud to call San Antonio home. We offer luxury senior living throughout the greater San Antonio area, delivering a variety of experiences from independent living to memory care. Each of our communities focuses on providing a comfortable and supportive environment within its walls, and access to the thriving and exciting atmosphere outside its walls.

Here at Franklin Park, we believe San Antonio, Texas, is the ideal place for retirement. Each day, when they wake up, our residents can choose from countless activities and opportunities—whether they’re feeling energetic and active or more relaxed. We’re sharing some of the reasons why San Antonio is a great place for seniors to live and some of the activities that our residents and guests enjoy.

Its History is Something to Remember

One of Texas’ oldest cities, San Antonio is rich in history, reflecting its deep Spanish roots. One of the most famous landmarks is a chain of five missions, or outposts, established to expand Spanish influence from Mexico. The most popular of these missions, The Alamo, is one of the most visited landmarks in the country today, attracting over 2.5 million visitors a year. Many older adults find it especially poignant as they can better appreciate the bravery and sacrifice made by those at the Battle of the Alamo.

There Are Plenty of Ways to Get Moving

Franklin Park encourages older adults to participate in regular physical activity, and there are certainly no shortages of opportunities for that in this city. San Antonio boasts several golf courses for those looking to sharpen their skills and get some exercise in. (Don’t worry, if you don’t feel like making your way to a golf course, we have a putting green at our Sonterra community!).

The River Walk is also a great way to get some steps in while immersing yourself in local shops, dining, and Texas culture.

Activities for Young and Old Alike

San Antonio provides the ideal combination of art, history, and family-friendly attractions, making it the perfect place to spend a day with family. Whether it’s adult children, grandchildren, or just close friends, guests love to visit our residents and spend an exciting day in the city. From Six Flags to SeaWorld to The San Antonio Zoo, there are so many activities that your family will already be planning their next trip before they leave.

It’s a Community That Cares

Even though it’s a large city, San Antonio is able to create a close-knit community for those who live here. Moreover, this community values and looks after its older populations, ensuring that San Antonio seniors are remembered and appreciated.

Just recently, a local Meals on Wheels began an initiative to send older adults puzzles. Another program is working to provide older adults with resources and tools to get online and connected as a way of preventing isolation.
